.... 15 days to go!

We would like to know what the best gift you ever had was. It could be something that you received when you were a child, or something that the love of your life gave you, or something your child gave you.

We would just love to hear about that special something that touched your heart and made a Christmas memory you will never forget! Maybe you could even share a little of the story behind the gift.

Who knows, you might help another member to surprise their "special someone"with the perfect gift !!

Favorite Gift: Mine was a dolls house when I was a very young child. The tiny furniture enthralled me, and I remember not wanting to go to the Christmas service because I wanted to play with it. I have had many wonderful, personal gifts over the years but that is my earliest Christmas memory.

My favorite gift was one that I received when I was 9 years old. About a month before Xmas Mom and Dad took in my Dad's sister and her 6 children (and there were 4 in my family) after her husband died. They arrived at our home with the clothes on their backs and nothing more. As we were not rich, Mom had to shop very carefully to stretch a dollar. She used to stop by this one store every day and check out the sale/clearance bin. When she found something she would buy one for the kids to wear now and wrap up another for Xmas (they had never had a Xmas tree). One day she found several new things in the bin that she wanted for the kids but she didn't have enough money and payday was a few days away, so she asked the owner of the store if she could put the things aside for her for a few days. The owner of the store told her that she had watched Mom everyday work to stretch every penny for those kids, and then told Mom to take it all with her blessing!

Anyway, that Xmas was the first that I didn't believe in Santa Claus but several of my cousins did, so a couple of weeks before Xmas Mom took me aside and asked me what I really wanted from Santa. She said that since money was tight she could only manage one present from Santa but she wanted to give something that I really wanted. I told her to get me a doll ... and she said "You don't really play with dolls much anymore ... do you really want that?" I told her yes, and I told her I want a small one.

That Xmas will always be my most memorable ... the faces on my cousins Xmas morning was something I will never forget, and that pretty little doll I got from Santa is, and always will be, the most special gift I ever got!

When I was 14 (I'm 22 now), my family (which is very small - I'm an only child so there's only my mother, father and myself) recieved the news that my mother had cancer. It was the worst thing that could ever have happened to me, and my father, and, at that time, I thought that I was going to lose her. Luckily, it was at an early stage, and they were able to do everything to help her. On Christmas Day of the same year (she was diagnosed in the April), we recieved a phone call from her doctor, to tell us that she had the all clear. This year, it will be exactly eight years since the news, and my mother has never been in better health. Also, today is her birthday, so Happy Birthday! No amounts of presents or festive cheer could ever amount to the sheer relief and hapiness that myself and my parents felt that day, and Christmas took on a whole new meaning to me.

Justin had to work on Christmas morning 2009, we arrived late to our Christmas lunch at his Aunt's late. The whole Plotts family was there, so the house was pretty full. After eating lunch and mingling for a while, Justin left for the living room. I was still eating and talking to family in the dining room.
Unknown to me he put in a CD in the DVD player and was playing our song "Inevitable" by Amberlin. I went and sat next to him when I finished and noticed our song was playing. He gently went to one knee and opened the ring box but didn't say anything. I was shocked looked back and forth from the ring to him, over and over for a few moments. He was speechless too and finally was able to say "Will you marry me?" For a few seconds I was still shocked I uttered "Sure" then a more certain "Yes" He was very nervous his hands were shaking. Took my hands over his and gently squeezed them a little and smiled. He smiled back and put the ring on my finger to rounds of cheering and applause. We were swarmed by his family with hearty hugs and congratulations. We later announced our engagement to the Reibsome side of the family and my family the Benfers, which was met with cheers and applause also. I have to say it was the best Christmas ever, we are to be married April 23, 2012 our 5th year anniversary.
