Biography of Bernardino di Betto, known as Pinturicchio.

Page Symbol for Artist pagesHe appears to have been the leading artist of the Borgia Papal court.
Apparently he was trained by Perugian painters such as Bonfigli and Fiorenzo de Lorenzo. He was employed by Pope Alexander VI in 1492, after being summoned from Orvieto to decorate six rooms. These rooms are now known as the 'Appartamenti Borgia,' and are located in the Vatican Library section of the old Vatican Palace.
Five of these Vatican Library rooms still retain a series of very famous Pinturicchio frescoes.
